Manual Therapy

Shannon uses Manual Therapy to alleviate pain, stiffness, restricted joint mobility, and muscular imbalances. Patients may develop these types of problems due to poor posture, faulty movement patterns, or injury.

Joint Mobilization

Joint Mobilization uses hands and other devices to improve movement within a joint. In a complex segmental structure like the spine, the techniques are important, but the decision-maker is where the “magic” happens. For example, there may be a segment with too little mobility next to a segment with too much mobility, and Shannon must protect the segment with too much mobility while working to restore mobility in the segment with restricted mobility.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Soft Tissue Mobilization uses hands or tools to loosen restrictions, release trigger points and restore proper length and tension to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and scar tissue.

Manual Edema Mobilization

Manual Edema Mobilization uses gentle massaging techniques in specific patterns combined with exercises to assist the lymphatic system in its function of clearing toxins and other by-products of inflammation to minimize swelling in a limb or joint as a result of injury or surgery.

Traditional & Pilates-Based Physical Therapy

Traditional Physical Therapy

Traditional Physical Therapy uses techniques to gain range of motion, improve strength, promote healthy posture, and gait balance. Shannon performs a skilled assessment of range of motion by testing strength, posture, gait balance, movement patterns and core awareness.  She looks at the whole person to address all areas of mechanical dysfunction in order to promote optimal health and well-being.

Pilates-Based Physical Therapy

Pilates-Based Physical Therapy combines the education and knowledge of a physical therapist with Pilates principles and exercises. An amazing amount of research and learning has improved our understanding of human movement since Joseph Pilates developed his system of exercising, and while he was ahead of his time, he was without the benefit of much of our modern knowledge regarding biomechanics and spinal movement. Shannon’s training in Pilates is specific to rehabilitation professionals. This allows her to combine the knowledge and best practices of traditional physical therapy with Pilates, giving clients the best of both worlds.
